Linguistic QualificationsLingo Systems rigorously screens every one of its linguistic resources. All of our translators, copy-editors, and proofreaders are native speakers, and most are located in their native (target language) countries. Every Lingo Systems linguist is also a full-time professional with at least five years of translation experience. Unlike many firms, we do not use part-timers, college students, or the cheapest resource we can find. Although not a requirement, most of our linguists have advanced degrees in a relevant field and are members of the ATA (American Translators Association). In order to work for Lingo Systems, every linguist must pass a competency evaluation administered by Lingo Systems' linguistic recruiter. As a part of this test, prospective linguists are asked to translate sample text based on their reported area of expertise. The resulting translation is then evaluated by one of our seasoned linguists for overall accuracy, subject matter comprehension, accuracy of technical terminology, consistency of terminology, syntax, writing style, possible mistranslation, and possible omissions. Lingo Systems may also partner with linguistic agencies located overseas. In most cases, we have worked with these agencies for more than ten years. The selection of a linguistic partner, whether individual or agency, is always done on a project specific basis in order to choose the best option for each language given the project subject matter and timeline. Finally, Lingo Systems never engages in the practice of utilizing the "best" linguistic resource for sample translations, and then replacing them with someone less qualified or less expensive once the project is awarded. Sample translations are always performed by the same linguists who will be assigned to the project. |
